Spread the love

For a brief moment I thought my vehicle was invisible. Surely it was the only logical explanation as to why multiple cars tried to come into my lane and hit me. A few times I had to go over into the next lane and was thankful that no one was on the other side. At my next stop I got out and sure enough could see the car without problems. Apparently the car was not invisible, people just can’t drive. Earlier today I went to the store and nothing went as planned. I wanted to talk to them about new counter tops, instead I looked at flooring. When I came home I was telling my sister about it and we were discussing the cost and that we need to be careful how we spend God’s money. She then said something along the lines of “Got it, God! Not today”

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest,
whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely,
whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue,
and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Philippians 4:8

Repeatedly, I’ve heard people say Not today, Satan, not today. If they aren’t saying it, they are wearing it, or have it on a cup, or a print in their home. While I can understand their point, I would rather give the glory to God. As a christian, why would my first thought be Satan? Why isn’t thanking God for His protection, guidance, wisdom, or whatever else the case may be, my first instinct? Similar to what my sister did earlier today. Her first thought wasn’t well Satan stopped you from looking at flooring. Instead it was, ok God, it’s not your time yet. Why do we give Satan so much credit? Does he have power? Yes. Does he have the ability to tempt us? Yes. Why is my focus on him though? Is his power greater than God’s? No. Through God are we able to resist the enemy? Yes. The Bible instructs me to think on good things and holy things. Satan is neither of those.

In the account of Cain and Abel, the Bible tells us that Abel brought the firstlings of his flock. When tithing we are often taught that the first thing we should take out is our tithe. Why is that? Is it because my first in all I do should be for God. I serve a risen savior who has done more for me than I could ever imagine. In my words and deeds my life should reflect Him. When something happens that I don’t like and the first words out of my mouth are to Satan, I give him too much power and more honor in my life than he deserves. Again, I understand the point when people say, Not today, Satan. However, I would rather my first thought be on God and not Satan.
