I know several people that come from medium or large sized families and it seems that there is one thing we all have in common – the disagreements. I don’t know that it is possible to get that many people together and have everyone agree. The loudness of the disagreements will vary from family to family. Some will simply disagree and move on while others may argue a bit. In my bunch it just depends on the topic. At my house we disagreed over Christmas. Yep, you read that correctly, we disagreed on Christmas; specifically, whether you could and even should try and keep Christmas in your hearts all year round. While I stayed pretty quiet I certainly have my own thoughts on the subject.
According to John 3:16-17 Jesus was sent to save us. The scripture states 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. I recently read a post on Facebook that said the following:
Christmas is about family…no. It is about the One who instituted the foundations of family in the Garden of Eden.
Christmas is about trees…no. It is about the Creator of the trees.
Christmas is about gifts…no. It is about the Giver of the greatest gift ever given and for all mankind.
Christmas is about Him.
All others are just additional blessings from a wonderful, almighty, all seeing, just, honest, all knowing, saving, sanctifying, healing and redeeming God! Thank you, Lord for coming here to abide among Your creation just to die, rise and call us away to be with You someday. Happy Birthday!
When it was said that we should keep Christmas in our hearts everyday, the person didn’t mean that you should decorate your house or give gifts each day. They didn’t mean that we should eat too many sweets or gather around the piano and sing Christmas carols. They meant something much deeper; they were saying we need to understand what we celebrate on December 25. I celebrate my saviour. I celebrate that He loved me enough to die on a cross, I celebrate that He lives. Keeping Christ in Christmas has been a slogan for many years. As important as that may be, I’d rather keep Christ in the Christian. In this case, that’s me. As I grow in Him I want the world to see Him and not me. I want to be a mirror image of His attitudes and His love. Color me crazy if you want, but I want Christmas everyday!
This was perfect and so glad you shared it!
Thank you! Also, thanks for stopping by. I’ll be posting more in the new year so I hopefully there will be more for you to read coming soon.
