Spread the love

I know some people hate Disney movies for various reasons and I’m fine with that. What I find ridiculous is an article I read saying you shouldn’t let your toddler watch Snow White, Cinderella, The Jungle Book, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, or Dumbo because of the inappropriate messages it sends our daughters and sons. Some of the reasons why are listed below:

Snow White teaches that women should clean
Cinderella is weak
The Little Mermaid gives up her voice and no one should have to give up something for another person

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13

What? Can someone explain to me what I just read? Go ahead and color me crazy if you will, but watching Snow White isn’t going to harm your daughters. If it teaches her that all a woman can do is clean, can someone please tell me why so many teenage girls have dirty rooms? You want to boycott Snow White because her voice gets on your nerves, I can get behind that! The Beauty and the Beast remarks in the article set me on a 10 minute tangent. I’ll keep it short for you though. Beauty and the Beast actually has many teachable moments and here’s my thoughts on Belle being imprisoned.  Maurice was imprisoned because he decided to make himself at home in a castle that didn’t belong to him. If someone comes in to my home uninvited and I see them snuggling up in front of the fireplace I’m probably gonna have them arrested and thrown in prison so I can’t say the Beast is awful for imprisoning him to begin with. Belle comes along and takes her fathers place. This seems to be one of those teachable moments about laying down your life for another. How many of us would do the same? Not knowing exactly what she was getting into she takes his place. It reminds me of the punishment that I deserved. The one that Christ took in my place, unlike a cartoon the punishment was real and unlike Belle, Jesus knew exactly what He was getting into.  Yet He did it for me. He took the pain and suffering for me. Alright, there’s my two cents, I’ll hush now!
