For a brief moment I thought my vehicle was invisible. Surely it was the only logical explanation as to why multiple cars tried to come into my lane and hit me. A few times I had to go over into the next lane and was thankful that no one was on the other side. At my next stop I got out and sure enough could see the car without problems. Apparently the car was not invisible, people just can’t drive. Earlier today I went to the store and nothing went as planned. I wanted to talk to them about new counter tops, instead I looked at flooring. When I came home I was telling my sister about it and we were discussing the cost and that we need to be careful how we spend God’s money. She then said something along the lines of “Got it, God! Not today”
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest,
whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely,
whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue,
and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Philippians 4:8
Repeatedly, I’ve heard people say Not today, Satan, not today. If they aren’t saying it, they are wearing it, or have it on a cup, or a print in their home. While I can understand their point, I would rather give the glory to God. As a christian, why would my first thought be Satan? Why isn’t thanking God for His protection, guidance, wisdom, or whatever else the case may be, my first instinct? Similar to what my sister did earlier today. Her first thought wasn’t well Satan stopped you from looking at flooring. Instead it was, ok God, it’s not your time yet. Why do we give Satan so much credit? Does he have power? Yes. Does he have the ability to tempt us? Yes. Why is my focus on him though? Is his power greater than God’s? No. Through God are we able to resist the enemy? Yes. The Bible instructs me to think on good things and holy things. Satan is neither of those.
In the account of Cain and Abel, the Bible tells us that Abel brought the firstlings of his flock. When tithing we are often taught that the first thing we should take out is our tithe. Why is that? Is it because my first in all I do should be for God. I serve a risen savior who has done more for me than I could ever imagine. In my words and deeds my life should reflect Him. When something happens that I don’t like and the first words out of my mouth are to Satan, I give him too much power and more honor in my life than he deserves. Again, I understand the point when people say, Not today, Satan. However, I would rather my first thought be on God and not Satan.
Preach it!
Amen. God has all power over satan. we just need to praise God and ask him to fight the battle for us . Reminds me of a song, The battle not mine said Little David Lord it’s thine I’m in your favor. I’m given it all to you . i knew not what to do………….. Give it to God!
YES!!! Amen! I was starting to wonder if I was the only person who felt this way. Like you, I totally get what they are trying to say. But it just didn’t agree with me. So I did a Google search to see — and FINALLY found your page. Only had to hit ‘more results’ 5 or 6 times. I agree that the phrase in question gives far too much glory to the enemy. We are supposed to think on things that are good & praiseworthy. So why not something like “God is in control” or “I can do All things thru Christ who gives me Strength”? “Today is the day that the Lord has made”!
Anytime I saw someone post it, wearing it, or carrying it on a notebook or cup- it was giving me an uncomfortable feeling. Like they were inadvertingly advertising for the kingdom of darkness. Do we need to rebuke & resist the enemy? Absolutely- after first submitting to God. Whatever we focus on, we honor & it moves in our direction. The bad thing is how many Christians don’t see an issue with this – or it seems like a ‘little thing’. To me, it’s one more way that the enemy is sneaking in, gaining ground by establishing a foothold, normalizing himself in our lives.
Posting that phrase with a ‘laugh/cry emoji’ because you got stuck in traffic- well, it’s not funny at all. Spiritual warfare is a very real thing. Thankfully, we have a Risen Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ, Who is our Advocate & has already won!!! It should always be our first thought to Praise God & give Him the glory in all things! To go to Him first in prayer. I’m not saying that I always get it right. Thankful that God is faithfully working things out in me. But it has been concerning that this phrase & actions around it are now many people’s “Go-To”. The enemy is tricky-tricky & has been since the Garden.
God will fight our battles. We need only be still. Tell Him what you need. Praise Him in ALL things, especially in the midst of turmoil & storms! Keep your focus & eyes on Jesus! We are more than conquerors through Christ! Let’s advertise for Christ! May we be living reflections of God’s love.
Thank you for your post. May God pour His blessings & Favor over you!
