I was raised in church and for many years I have heard Heaven and Hell preached. Although I’m sure it probably has happened, I’ve never personally known of someone telling the pastor they can’t speak of Heaven or Hell because they haven’t experienced it. The Bible speaks of both places and I don’t have to go to Hell in order to know I don’t want to be there. Just as I know I do want to go to Heaven even though I’ve never been there. Most people that believe in God would agree that you don’t have to visit to know you want to live in Heaven eternally. Can I tell you everything about Heaven? No, I can’t, not even close. All I can tell you is what the Bible says. Here’s the thing, I don’t have to experience something to know what the Bible tells me.
22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. 24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. 25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it Ephesians 5: 22-25
I’m often told that I don’t understand marriage. That I can’t really say how it should work because I’ve never been married. If the Bible says it, I can say it. I don’t have to have experienced it to to discuss it. I know how a wife should behave because God’s Word tells me: I know how a husband should behave because the Bible tells me. Call me crazy if you will, but I don’t believe we can say that the Bible is our road map to life in one sentence and then in another say you have to experience something to know anything about it.
Let me say this before I have tomatoes thrown at my face, I understand that just like I can’t tell you everything about Heaven or Hell, I can’t tell you everything about marriage. I don’t claim to be an expert in any way on the subject. I do claim that God’s Word is my road map. I do claim that if God wants me to behave a certain way, than He laid it out in the scripture for me. I claim that as a single female if I do get married one day, I should understand some about how a marriage works because God’s Word tells me how it should work.
