Spread the love

In recent months my niece informed me that she didn’t think she had ever seen the 1992 movie Buffy The Vampire Slayer. If you’ve never seen it, just know it is a very cheesy and corny 90’s movie. Towards the end of the movie there is a dance for the senior class in the high school gym. The gym is surrounded with vampires wanting in and of course you know chaos is about to ensue.

Buffy: Don’t worry. They can’t come in unless they’re invited.
Kimberley: I… already invited them.
[Everyone — students and faculty — stares at her.]
Kimberley: They’re seniors!

They can’t come in unless they’re invited. It’s a thought that I’ve had on my mind for months now. No, I’m not talking about vampires any longer. There’s a song that I’ve also had on repeat for months and it’s You Can’t Cross the Bloodline. if you don’t know it, you should go look it up because it’s a good one. The chorus says:

I just gotta tell you Satan, you can’t cross the bloodline because I’m covered by His blood
You may stare and you may fight, but you’re gonna lose this battle tonight
‘Cause remember, you can’t cross the bloodline

Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Luke 10:19
And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;  Mark 16:17
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7
I know these are just a few verses, but there are more, oh so many more that speak of the power we have in God. It seems to me that through God, not myself, but through God alone, I have power over the enemy. Satan has no power in my life except what I give to him. He can’t come in unless he is invited. Don’t get me wrong, I know the Word says he is like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. I know the Word says that he comes to steal, kill, and destroy. You know what the Word doesn’t say? It doesn’t say I have to allow it, it simply informs me of Satan’s plans. Yes, he is going to try and harass me, but I don’t have to go along with him. I can say no. I can resist him. I can rebuke him. I can tell him to leave. I have authority over him. Why then do we so often allow him in? Why do we invite him to stay instead of telling him to leave. He cannot cross the bloodline and I am covered by the blood. When he attacks and he will I can tell him I’m a blood bought child of God to leave me alone. I wonder how much different our lives would be if we stood in the power we were given? How many of us would become more bold and filled with power like Paul or Peter? How often would we see signs following believers? I believe it is what God desires for His children. I believe our life on this earth should be so different than it is today. I can’t speak for you, but I’m ready for different!
